Library Manager
Library Manager
Applications Close:
Napier City Council is one of Napier's biggest and most desirable employers - we value excellence, integrity, sustainability and outstanding customer and community service.

Libraries nationally and internationally are embarking on a journey of transformational change and Napier City Council's library is no exception. We now have an outstanding opportunity for a manager to lead the team through an exciting redevelopment to better deliver the vision and requirements of the Napier community.

The Napier Library is located in the heart of Napier's beautiful seaside CBD. Napier has long been considered the architectural jewel in Hawke's Bay's crown - but in 2017, it is also thriving as the cultural, artistic and technology hub of the region.

The main library services a population of 62,000, with over 35,000 registered borrowers, and operates a busy subsidiary branch at Taradale. Both libraries are open seven days and employ an expert team of passionate librarians.

To be considered for this role you will be a visionary and future-focused leader with experience in managing teams, effective operational leadership and customer service. As there is good sector expertise in existing staff, a library background is not necessarily essential. We're more focused on your personality, passion, and experience in community services, education or leisure and recreation management.

Essential requirements for this position include:

Relevant tertiary qualifications (Library or other);
Demonstrated strategy and management skills, including business development, financial planning, policy development, setting objectives and targets, and staff management;
Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate others;
Competence in computer and information technology, with a working knowledge of customer and product databases;
Enthusiasm for the community services profession, creativity, lateral thinking and a sense of humour.
These opportunities don't come along every day! If you're ready to work with a bunch of energetic people within a progressive environment, we want to hear from you.
